Natural Pain Relief…and My Big Foot!

I have recently experienced a bit of damage to my right foot in the form of torn ligaments. Having done this a few times before in my early years, and hearing a few loud cracks when I went over, I’m pretty sure that is what is going on. Not being a huge advocate of going to the Doctors…I have not had an XRay. To be honest, I’m not sure if that will actually impede the healing process right now or not.

The first night it happened I experienced quite a lot of pain. I used all the things I had in my arsenal…ice pack, foot elevated, Comfrey Cream, Arnica every half hour and Fusion’s Pain and Inflammation. Now, while all that was good, and it did help with the pain but…was still not enough to help get me past the throbbing to sleep.

The next day, my beautiful friend from Healing Space in Inverloch, leant me a Red Photonic torch. This particular one came from Red Light Therapy Kits in Australia. Not really knowing how it worked but trusting it must be a good thing for Latimah to send it to me, I used it as prescribed. Twice that day for 15mins at a time…putting it on different points around my ankle and foot and by the third time the next morning, the pain had gone! I was ecstatic for many reasons…1: no-one enjoys being in pain! 2: I really hate being on crutches…even more painful!! 3: It’s warming up and I want to get better and walk on the beach!!

With all that inspiration to get me back on my feet, I have been doing some research and it’s pretty interesting stuff. It was discovered a long time ago and most recently NASA and the Navy Seals use it to speed up recovery from injuries in the field. The infrared light activates the production of endorphins and blocks pain-transmitting chemicals. (it certainly has!) It also works with healing soft tissue, ligaments and tendons, (fingers x’ed!) works on skin problems eg; acne, rosacea and even wrinkles by promoting collagen, increasing blood flow, relaxing the muscles and stimulating cell mitochondria. Why have I not checked this out before?! This website gives some good info if you would like to read further 🙂

I will keep you up to date regarding “My Big Foot”

Getting Healthy….and Mercury overload!

I would like to start right where I am at the moment… I have been seeing a wonderful woman that I have highly recommended to most people. So much so that it’s hard to get to see her easily these days! Latimah Sloan from Healing Space in Inverloch. This woman is a true healer on all levels for the body, mind and spirit.

My intention is to have great health and age with ease. The interesting thing was that I had been “cleansing” for approx 5 – 6 weeks…meaning no Gluten, Dairy, Meat, Sugar, Yeast and apart from feeling pretty pleased with myself…I’d kicked my Will into gear, I had started thinking…ok, where is the “bouncing out of my skin” and the “I feel great!” feeling about to return?! Where’s the “weight dropping off in buckets” since I cut out ALL sugars going to start happening?!! Nothing :(….but this is when the next layer appears… (There should be music after those few words…Da da dahhhhh! )

mercuryoverloadThe next thing that showed up was Heavy Metals…. again. I say again as I have had this diagnosis before quite a few years ago on seeing a wonderful Naturopath when we lived in Melbourne named Catherine Gorma who practices in Eltham. I was told at that time I would need to do a cleanse for them every 6mths…time passes and I haven’t been vigilant! It seems that they build up in the body and can cause some very nasty side effects that I was labeling “getting old” and “Menopause”! Not so… ( It’s amazing how our “labeling” of things…symptoms, can start confusing us to what the reality is. That’s another topic all together but something I would like to chat about one day soon.)

One of the reasons behind having such high Mercury levels ( apart from playing with that fun stuff we used to experiment with in the labs at school so many years ago?!) is supposedly the amount of Amalgams I have in my mouth. It was very interesting to read the list of symptoms..it was like a direct who’s who list of what I had been experiencing! It was a relief really, as I had started thinking, Alzheimers, here we go! Now, that may not be a coincidence.

So the next part of the “Cleansing” begins. I had never heard of Thiol foods but it became clear that all the wonderful healthy foods that I had been allowed to eat while being “good” on my cleanse, just may be the culprits that were causing me to feel so s—! Hmmm….So the research into high Thiol foods began. I was totally blown away by the list. My beloved greens which I could live on excluding everything else…well, nearly, showed up as being something I couldn’t eat! This was a little depressing to say the least. One of the things I started which had replaced my need for comfort food was raw Cacao. I had taken up drinking our yummy hot chocolates made from Raw Cacao with Hazelnut Milk…no longer! Chocolate is right up there on the list….This was going to be a real challenge!

It was to last 3 weeks. The short version is, I survived…by being very creative in between bouts of being totally bored and getting some help from Tim (who you may know from UpBeet) A great cook and full of creativity when restricted in the kitchen from being on a low Fodmap Diet for quite some time.

The thing was that during that time, my head became an absolute vague mess…I’m saying, a little worse than usual! There were moments of clarity but…the symptoms seemed worse.

To be continued…

If you’re not getting to the bottom of things…the Copper link! »

I have been talking with lot’s of women in the shop as of late and we all seem to have very similar symptoms…it seems we have gotten to a certain age and it all starts to fall apart! The unexpected weight gain with a sluggish thyroid as the named culprit, Candida or chronic Yeast syndrome, Irritable Bowel, or at least uncomfortable bloating, a growing list of foods that we are sensitive to…the list goes on. And while a lot of us have tried to “fix” the problems…nothing seems to shift. What’s happening here?!

When I was younger, I met Catherine Gorma (Naturopath, L.I.S.T.E.N System and much more) that introduced me to the importance of minerals. I read a great little book about Colloidal minerals and was surprised to read that without them, we cannot absorb vitamins, our hormones can go out of whack…it seems minerals are the building blocks of the whole body and bottom line, without them lot’s of functions just don’t happen. It really hit me at a core level and I realized the importance of what I was reading. No-one tells you about minerals…but it seems without them, or when they are seriously out of balance, it underlies all the breaking down in our systems! This will all tie in shortly… 🙂

copperpostOne of the things I have been using to help me flush the heavy metals is Bentonite Clay. I started using one but have changed to “Edible Earth” (back in stock soon) I find this to be quite different from the one I started with..and am starting to really feel my energy return. Edible Earth No. 1 – 2.05lb / 931g EE-12

Heavy metals are a tricky one to get rid of. While there are foods that will flush the metals out of the organs, it can actually end up in the brain and tissues. The body still needs help in actually getting it out! This is where Bentonite Clay comes in. I will say that when starting the Clay…go sloowww. Me, I dived in after reading some info on one site….but maybe I could have been a little more cautious! The detox effects were quite intense…..brain fog like I couldn’t believe! I learn’t that a teaspoon twice a day was plenty….and I still feel like I had half a brain!

And then there is Copper…this is something I had heard nothing about but actually feels like it’s the missing link! It’s quite exciting really and may just lead me back to studying again. I have spoken about it to some of you already but really just need to post this info. If you don’t feel like you are getting to the real underlying cause…or what you are doing doesn’t seem to be doing what you were hoping for….this may help.
